Canon Announces The End Of DSLR’s

In an interview with Yomiuri Shimbun, Canon’s Chairman and CEO Fujio Mitarai stated that the EOS-1D X Mark III, released in 2020, will be their last DSLR. Mitarai said that Canon will focus on the development and production of their mirrorless ranges, EOS M and EOS R.

DSLR loyalists shan’t be too upset: Canon still considers the EOS-1D X Mark III their flagship… for now, and Mitarai has said that production will continue for at least another year. Canon also offers servicing for cameras up to 10 years after they’re discontinued. This means a 1DX III bought today could potentially last until 2030 before third-party support becomes the only option, by which point we can expect camera technology to have advanced substantially.
